Back in the SoDak

While we were out in Minnesota, Red asked me what day we were heading home. I told him we picked Purple up from camp on Friday so we would either head out that afternoon or Saturday morning. He stared at me blinking, trying to comprehend. He finally sputtered that he had drill on Saturday and Sunday. I told him he was on leave--that's how he was in Minnesota in the first place. He then informed me that he thought we'd be home before then. I'm not even going to get into how he can take leave and not know which dates he needs to take them for. We're just going to move forward to the fact that we had a problem. How would we make it home in time for him to make it? Well we'd drive from 2 or 3pm after picking Purple up until we got home at 4am-ish and then he would go straight to drill. Yuck. Our vacation wasn't supposed to end with rushing, tired chaos.

Well then he talked to his boss who decided he should drill in Sioux Falls instead of Rapid. That was a better option by about 5 hours plus a time change. Not ideal, but we'd take it. They didn't even care that he didn't have a uniform with him. So we made it to Sioux Falls on Friday evening in time for Red to get a full nights sleep before drill.

While he went to drill that meant the kids and I had two days to spend hanging out in Sioux Falls. We are West River snobs, so I wasn't really looking forward to that. Oh well, I'm flexible.

We went to Falls Park because yes there are actual waterfalls for which Sioux Falls is named. I was pretty awestruck at the falls. I had no idea they were so freakin' cool! And big! And loud! And pretty!

What a beautiful park right smack in the middle of the city.

I also got to go to the yarn store in Sioux Falls and it's heavenly. So amazing. We also went to another park and the mall a little. Not that exciting but something to pass the time still. So I will admit Sioux Falls is kind of a cool city.
